SUSSEX COUNTY – Egg-citement will abound Saturday, April 15 across Sussex County.
Easter egg hunts and related activities are scheduled that day in Georgetown, Millsboro, Frankford and from sky near Laurel.
Sponsored for the 17th straight year by the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, the 2017 “Easter Extravaganza” runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 15 on the grounds of the Nutter Marvel Carriage Museum.
The event is open to area children and all of the “children at heart” who will be accompanying them.
“This is always a fun, early season event here in Sussex County that’s really grown in popularity over the last few years,” said Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce president Angela Emerson. “The kids always seem to have a great time, and that’s really what this event is all about. So come on out and join us on April 15 for a fun time in Georgetown.”
As is always the case, the Easter Bunny will be given V.I.P. treatment during his special time of year, posing for photographs and mingling with guests.
And returning this year is another special appearance by Farmer McGregor and the infamous Peter Rabbit.
A moon bounce, face painting, children’s games and refreshments will also be featured, but the highlight of the day is the Easter Egg Hunt, which will kick off at three separate times.
The hunts are based on age levels: kids ages 3 to 5 begin at noon, 6 to 9-year-olds at 12:15 p.m. and children ages 10 and 12 at 12:30 p.m.
The GGCOC is also once again sponsoring a children’s coloring contest, with winners announced on the day of the event. Entries must be received at the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce office, located at 827 East Market Street, by Wednesday, April 5, to allow time for judging.
Forms can be picked up at the chamber office, or printed online, and prizes will be awarded in four separate age groups. Winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event.

Eggs will be divided between three age groups on three fields. There are “prize eggs” on each field, with special prizes hidden on each field, too.
