BETHANY BEACH – The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a fire in Bethany Beach March 14 that severely damaged a four-story wood-framed house.
Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Harry Miller said the blaze occurred in the 39000 block of Heron Road and was reported at 10:31 a.m.
Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company, assisted by Millville, Rehoboth Beach, Roxana, Frankford, Dagsboro, Ocean City fire companies extinguished the blaze.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing from the roof of the four-story residence. The structure was not occupied at the time of the fire, Mr. Miller said. The fire was placed under control at approximately 11:25 a.m.
Deputies from the State Fire Marshal’s office are seeking to determine the origin and cause of the blaze. The blaze remains under investigation.
Damages are estimated at $1,000,000, Mr. Miller said.
One firefighter was transported to Beebe Medical Center with a minor hand injury, Mr. Miller said.
