GEORGETOWN – A 62-year-old motorcyclist from Laurel was killed Thursday in a two-vehicle crash near Georgetown.
Delaware State Police report Howard Alan Schweitzer was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred around 11 a.m. at the intersection of East Trap Road and Piney Grove Road.
Investigation determined Ms. Schweitzer was northbound on East Trap Road on a 2003 Harley Davidson, state police spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz said.
Yajira Quintana-Tinoco, 31, of Seaford was eastbound on Piney Grove Road in a 2004 Ford Explorer. Ms. Quintana-Tinoco had had stopped momentarily at the stop sign but failed to remain stopped and pulled into the intersection, investigation revealed.
The motorcycle struck the right front of the Explorer. Mr. Schweitzer, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle, Sgt. Bratz said.
Ms. Quintana-Tinoco, and two juvenile passengers in her vehicle, were uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
Impairment is not considered a factor in this crash, Sgt. Bratz said.
Mr. Schweitzer was a former assistant chief with the Laurel Fire Department.
