State Police Homicide Unit investigating death of three-year-old girl

LAUREL – Delaware State Police Homicide Unit detectives are currently conducting a death investigation involving a three-year-old girl.

Preliminary investigation began Friday, April 17 at approximately 7:17 p.m. after the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center received a call reporting CPR in progress, state police spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz said.

The Laurel Police Department, Laurel Fire Department and Sussex County Paramedics were dispatched to the 900 block of Daniel Street, Carvel Gardens in Laurel. The Delaware State Police were contacted to conduct the investigation.

The victim was turned over to the Division of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy was performed. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide, Sgt. Bratz said.

The investigation by the homicide unit detectives is ongoing.

As to not compromise the integrity of this investigation, no further information will be released at this time, said Sgt. Bratz.
